The kickoff of the 2013 D1 Grand Prix season is normally looked at the Tokyo Auto Salon which brings out a huge group of drivers to put on an exhibition of the parking lot. Here is Daigo Saito with his Sunoco Fuels sponsored Lexus IS250-C. This car sounds quite insane as he rips around the TAS parking lot.

Following in the footsteps of Max Orido and Tetsuya Hibino, it appears that Ken Nomura aka Nomuken will be driving a Toyota GT86 in D1 next season.  This snapshot shows off some interesting lexan pieces attached to the rear wing. Formula D has taken steps to minimize the size of spoiler end plates, it doesn’t appear that D1 has the same rules.

KEN BLOCK AND HOONIGAN RACING DEBUT ALL-NEW, M-SPORT BUILT 2013 FORD FIESTA ST RX43

For the 2013 race season, Hoonigan Racing Division’s Ken Block is focused on two goals: winning gold at all four of this year’s Global X Games and going for the overall championship win during this year’s Global RallyCross season. Ken’s tool for achieving these goals is the all-new, M-Sport built, Hoonigan Racing Division Ford Fiesta ST RX43.

Developed in collaboration between Block, Hoonigan Racing Division and M-Sport (the Malcolm Wilson-run motorsports operation in England that’s been responsible for fielding Ford’s WRC efforts over the last 16 years), Block’s new racecar is a completely fresh build from the ground up. Starting with the base Ford Fiesta shell, M-Sport has taken their considerable years of experience and expertise and focused their efforts into creating the ultimate, fire-spitting RallyCross car for Block to compete with this season.

“We turned to M-Sport on this build for a multitude of reasons,” said Team Manager Derek Dauncey. “We learned a lot last year in Ken’s debut GRC season and we were able to take that information, pass it along to the engineering team at M-Sport and have them create an absolute beast of a racecar. Our car last year was quite good and Ken qualified first a few times, took silver at Los Angeles X Games and led the majority of the final race in Las Vegas. To be entering this season with a car that’s so much improved upon an already great vehicle is great for Ken and the team.”

Having completed a successful first test of the car just yesterday, Block came away highly impressed. “I’m absolutely stoked on how this car has turned out,” said Block. “I know my Ford Fiesta HFHV last year was awesome, but the RX43 is really on a whole new level. Malcolm and the team at M-Sport took all of our input and made some radical improvements. I’m feeling absolutely confident that I’ll have one of the best cars on the starting grid when we kick off the GRC season at Global X Games in Brazil next month. I can’t wait!”

Block’s first competitive event with his new Ford Fiesta ST RX43 will take place later next month on April 21st at the first of four Global X Games, X Games Brazil. :http://hooniganracing.com
